- Circumstances may appear to wreck our lives and God's plans,
but God is not helpless among the ruins. --Eric Liddell Olympian
I had the pleasure of attending a women's conference today with Carol Kent as the featured speaker. Not knowing what to expect as I had only read a little bit about her story. I went knowing that Carol and her family had and are still enduring a life-altering event. Their only son had shot and killed his wife's ex-husband. *pause*
WOW that is a show stopper...your first reaction is (or at least mine was)...Horror...the thought of your child, your own flesh and blood, committing such a horrific crime and then the repercussions of that crime. Unimaginable...
Uncomprehendable, the pain and agony this family has dealt with...I knew that this conference should be very heart-wrenching to say the least. Talk about a true test of faith...
The following quote by David Jeremiah (founder of Turning Point Ministries: author of Life Wide Open and My Heart's Desire), explains Carol's journey of hope.
"When I Lay My Isaac Down is a book about the worst pain that a parent could ever experience and the grace of God that sustains us when that pain never goes away. Carol Kent has laid open her broken heart and proven that triumph can exist in tragedy. This book will break your heart as it strengthens your faith!"
(This quote can be found on the back of Carol's book, When I Lay My Isaac Down.)
Carol touched my heart with her tragic story and her unconditional love for her child. It is easy to understand that strong love Carol feels for her son...as a Mom myself, I know that no matter what my children do in their lives I will most definitely always love them first and foremost throughout their trials and tribulations. Carol inspired me as she told how she took a tragic event to testify to others.
I highly reccomend her books and definitely if you get a chance to hear her in person do so. She is also a speaker for Amazing Freedom 2007, sponsored by Women of Faith Ministries.
